Friendship Parade

On Friday, Oct. 28th we will be having a special spirit day for our students and staff. We are looking forward to celebrating friendships, including everyone, and having fun!!! Students will be invited to Dress-Up that day by wearing orange or dressing up as a positive character from a book. This is a spirit day with the goal of adding a little variety to our school year and spending time together celebrating friendships.

As a part of our celebration, weather permitting, we will have a short parade with students, which will remain on school grounds. Feel free to come and watch from the playground as we parade through the playground!

As we use this opportunity to think about an inclusive environment and creating a strong sense of belonging for all, I’d like for students to follow these guidelines:

  • Students are not required to dress up.

  • Students may choose to wear orange - October is National Bullying Prevention Month and the color orange shows our support of anti-bullying.

  • Students may choose to dress up as their favorite book character.

  • All costumes must be positive in nature. Please note that this is not a Halloween parade and scary costumes may not be worn. These costumes should be left for when the children go trick or treating in the neighborhood. Students who do wish to dress up may only wear costumes that are positive in nature.

  • Students who choose to dress up may not wear costume masks that cover their faces, additionally students may not carry props as a part of their costumes.

  • Students may not have look alike weapons, swords, etc.

The parade will start around 2:00 with the students parading through the school and then onto the playground. The parade will go around the playground and students will reenter the building. Students will not be dismissed early and will return to classrooms following the parade.

Whether you’re walking to school or just taking a stroll around the block, always remember to stay safe when engaging in outdoor recreation by looking both ways, behind you and all around you before crossing the street. And, of course, remember to put your phone in your pocket!
